In-camera Creativity

Speaker: Eli Vega was born in a railroad boxcar to poor migrant parents of Mexican/Spanish descent. He grew up speaking Spanish and failed first grade becasue of the language barrier. Miraculously, he stayed in school, graduated and went on to Texas Tech University where he discovered Monet, Renoir, Dalí, Cezanne, Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Degas, and other masters and learned about color theory, design, composition, and other art-enhancing factors. Twenty years after his art days in college he bought his first 35mm SLR. Besides learning about f/stops, shutter speeds and exposure, he discovered that everything about what constitutes good photography he had already learned as an art student. His latest book, Right Brain Photography (Be an artist first), is now in its fourth edition.

You can see some of Eli's work and learn more about him by visiting

Program: We spend so much time with photo editing software that we forget how to use our cameras and lenses anymore! Eli will talk about various in-camera and lens techniques he uses to create abstracts, Impressionism, special effects, Surrealism, and simply dynamic images, without relying on software applications. Eli is known to say, "The best photography is found where technical know-how and creative aesthetics meet," and "I don't see with my eyes. I see with my imagination."
