Wildlife Behind the Fence: What the World Didn’t Know about Rocky Mountain Arsenal

Speaker: Wendy Shattil

Program: Bob Rozinski and Wendy Shattil were hired by the Department of Justice in 1988 to create a dozen of the best wildlife photos they'd ever taken. The location was Rocky Mountain Arsenal and they had six weeks to accomplish this. Six weeks turned into seven years and the opportunity to change people’s opinions of the Arsenal from an unapproachable toxic wasteland to a National Wildlife Refuge. It was a compelling challenge, as more wildlife could be seen at the Arsenal in two hours than in a day at Rocky Mountain National Park.

34 years ago, the Urban Wildlife Photo Club was the first group Bob and Wendy guided around the property. Some of you will recognize yourselves in a photo from that day!
