Spring Birding in the Rio Grande Valley

Speaker: Tom Loucks has been a longstanding amateur photographer, dating to childhood, and has been a member of UWPC since 2014.  He was introduced to birding even before photography, and, by association with bird photographers, he backed into wildlife photography. A few of his photos can be seen on his Member Images web page.

Program: Club member Tom Loucks will present a talk on springtime birding in the Rio Grande Valley (“RGV”). The Rio Grande forms the border between Mexico and Texas, running perpendicular to the Gulf Coast, which is a principal North American flyway for migrating birds. As one moves westward from the coast, the bird populations change from shorebirds and sea birds to more continental species, so the RGV during migration season offers an incredible array of species. Tom’s talk will of course describe what you can see at the popular blinds at birding ranches, but – more importantly – Tom will address what you can see on your own based on his two self-directed trips to the RGV.
